Usage of Ferro Silicon in Steelmaking

Ferro silicon is a commonly used deoxidizer in the steelmaking process. The addition of silicon in steel can reduce FeO, lowering the oxygen content in the steel and improving its quality. The SiO2 formed by the combination of silicon and oxygen has a high melting point (1600-1700℃) and exists in the form of slag during the steelmaking process, effectively separating it and thereby enhancing steel quality.

Usage of Ferro Silicon in Steelmaking

In the steelmaking process, the amount of ferro silicon added is a key parameter, usually adjusted flexibly based on furnace type, steel grade, and the specific conditions of raw materials. Generally, about 1-5 kilograms of ferro silicon is added per ton of steel. Ferro silicon for steel, as an important alloy additive, can effectively adjust the carbon and silicon content in steel, optimizing its performance. Electric arc furnaces may require a slight increase in ferro silicon usage due to shorter production cycles, and when the carbon content in the steel is high, the demand for ferro silicon also increases accordingly. Additionally, the composition of raw materials influences the amount of ferro silicon used; for instance, when using high carbon ferro chrome, the amount of ferro silicon can be appropriately reduced. In summary, the precise quantity of ferro silicon added should be comprehensively considered based on actual production to ensure optimal steel quality.
