Silicon carbide, with the chemical formula SiC, is an inorganic substance rare in nature, and exists in small amounts in moissanite. At present, the way to obtain silicon carbide is mainly through artificial smelting, whose raw materials are mainly quartz sand, petroleum coke, wood chips, etc. The smelting method is to smelt the raw materials of silicon carbide through resistance furnace, which induces a chemical reaction of raw materials under high temperature to produce silicon carbide.
Silicon carbide can be divided into green and black in terms of appearance. Green silicon carbide has a relatively higher content than black silicon carbide and is more effective in use. Through microscopic observation, it can be found that silicon carbide itself contains abundant hexagonal crystals with specific gravity of 3.20~3.25 and hardness of 2840~3320kg/mm2.
First of all, we need to select different raw materials according to the grade of silicon carbide to be produced, which takes a lot of time and effort, usually from the selection of raw materials to laboratory testing, and then to test production. The carefully selected raw materials are then heated in a resistance furnace, where the furnace temperature is strictly controlled, as it can have a serious impact on the quality of the silicon carbide, and the feeding time is also controlled to the second. All of this is done in order to produce high quality silicon carbide.
